Universal Resorts Orlando!

Hello all, お元気ですか?

I hope that you’re all doing well. I’m doing quite well, trying to juggle with my departure preparations, teaching, japanese lesson, and music jobs, quite busy but happy 🙂 So today I will try to continue my writing about my USA trip although i know it’s really late 😀 This will be my last post about USA and I will write about Universal Orlando Resorts.

Universal Orlando!

Universal Orlando Resorts!

So, if you’re visiting Orlando, beside visiting Disneyland you also have to visit Universal Studios Orlando!

This Universal Orlando Resorts is huge, unlike the Singapore and Osaka park. It has two separate parks, Universal Studios Florida and Island of Adventure. In Universal Studios Florida you will find more Universal Studio-themed ride like Shrek, Despicable Me, Man in Black, and many more. However, in Island of Adventure you will get much more unique experience with more interesting rides!

Island of Adventure

Get your pre-booked ticket ready, have your finger scanned and off you go to this spectacular Island of Adventure! This park consists of 6 area, from Seuss Landing, The Lost Continent, Jurassic Park, Marvel Superhero Island, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. But this park is especially famous for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter area! I could recall that when finally the park gate was opened, everyone was racing through this area, everyone wanted to visit this area first before it got too crowded! If you are a big fan of Harry Potter, you MUST visit this area! This area is like a recreation of Harry Potter movie, everything is so similar to the movie! (with real size Hogwarts School and Hogsmeade plus all the shops like Honeydukes, Ollivander and you can even dine at Three Broom Sticks). Take a peek on some of my pictures!

hello there, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy!

Ollivanders!

Good meal with Butter beer in Three Broom Sticks!

For the ride, the legendary ride here is the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey! To take the ride you have to pass and wander inside Hogwarts first (which was really really amazing). The ride itself is about Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s broom ride, it was quite thrilling and scary for a coward like me (it involves a lot of tilting, jolting, and acceleration). But good news is, you can only stroll around Hogwarts and leave the queue for not taking the ride 😀 But although it was quite scary for me, I think the ride was really spectacular!

In the Lost Continent, the famous ride was of course Jurassic Park River Adventure, but beware, you will get wet on this ride! The area is much larger than Universal Studios Singapore Area, thus enabling us to see more kind of dinosaur. This ride also has the same feature like USS, when we’re nearly caught by Tyrannosaurus Rex and goes into a terrifying plunge. The plunge was 26 m in height and really terrifying (again, for me).

Welcome to Jurassic Park!

Welcome to Jurassic Park!

We did not really explore on The Lost Continent (which features Poseidon Furry) and Toon Lagoon. We did stroll on Seuss Landing, because i am really fond of Cat in The Hat, everything in that area is so colorful and cheery!

Welcome to Seuss Landing!

Welcome to Seuss Landing!

Whoops!

Whoops!

The last area was Marvel Super Hero Island, it has its legendary Hulk Coaster, but of course we did not ride that. We tried the Spiderman Adventure, such a fun 3D adventure!

Universal Studios Florida

We spent half day in Island of Adventure and moved to Universal Studios Florida. Before you got inside don’t forget to take a picture with the legendary Universal Studios enermous globe! Ok, the heat was really scorching that moment so we did not visit so many attractions in this park.

Hello, Florida!

Hello, Florida!

The newest attraction in this park is Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, this ride is such a hilarious 4D ride (because i really love Minion, i think) and the ride smells like… banana! 😀

it's fun to be Minion...

it’s fun to be a Minion…

This park has all Universal Studios classic attraction like Shrek 4D (no matter how many times you watch this, i guess you will never get bored!), Transformers 3D, and the famous Revenge of the Mummy indoor coaster (which i will never want to ride again). You can also stroll on the New York area, taking pictures with Hollywood Star like Marilyn Monroe and have a scoop of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream to quencher your thirst!

Marilyn Monroe :D

Marilyn Monroe 😀

Ben & Jerry's Shop, really fancy!

Ben & Jerry’s Shop, really fancy!

We eventually rode the Men In Black, Allien Attack ride, we pretend to be a Man in Black trainee and we have to fight aliens. But please be careful if you have motion sickness, this ride has vigorous rotations, hard enough to make you sick 😀

So that was my story in Universal Resorts Orlando. What can i tell? As a theme park, this park gives a different kind of sensation from Walt Disney World. It is not as ‘magical’ as Disney World but i can really tell that the decoration and landscaping was made rally really detail! So guys, i recommend you to visit both this place and Disney World when you visit Orlando. It’s such an interesting experience that you will never forget!

The Magical Walt Disney World (2)

Hello all, this is my second post about Walt Disney World! 😀

If in my previous post i’ve told you about the resorts where I’ve stayed it’s the time to talk about the Disney’s Park! Yeay!

walt-disney-world-icons-1000x450

the image of 4 Walt Disney World Park!

Walt Disney World has 4 theme parks; Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studio, and Disney’s  and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We only had 3 days in Walt Disney World so we only visited 2 from its 4 park, Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studio. I went to Epcot 20 years ago (so I really could not recall anything) but basically it was like Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (but the scope was international, so the displays are from various countries, not only America). For Disney’s Animal Kingdom? We were not too fond of outdoor and animal-related activity, at least we can do it outside Disney World.

Magic Kingdom

This is my dream park! Everything related to fairy tale and classic Disney tale is here! And I made use of this precious opportunity to blend with this park, trying to be a part of this park. A part of this park?  Yes, I dressed up as a Cinderella!

20140506_091134

Let me be a princess for one day~

I know I’m already 22 years old and a (supposed to be) serious and dedicated Bioengineering master student candidate. But, hello, I’ve travelled for thousand miles to get here, from east to west and through a bloody long and exhausting flight. So why waste this opportunity?

So I managed my ultimate dream, posing as a Cinderella in front of a real Cinderella castle! I was also quite proud with my make-up, I think it was better than the Bibbidi Bobbidi’s Boutique makeup. I was overjoyed, and everytime I entered shop or attraction the shopkeeper said ‘Hello Princess’ to me. Even little girl stared jealously because of my perfect costume, LOL. Too bad I could not make an exceptional salon-standard hairdo to finish my princess look.

And I think my family was also happy because they did not have to queue if they want to take a picture with Disney’s character, they can just take a picture with me, LOL.

My family, there are cinderella and maleficent :D

20140506_091317

So, talking about the park, this park is divided into 5 main areas. Main Street USA, Adventure Land, Frontier Land, Liberty Square, Fantasy Land, and Tomorrow Land.

Since we only spent half days in this park, we emphasized on attraction originated specifically from this park. We skipped some attractions that we had experienced in Paris, Hongkong, and Tokyo. We did a little shopping at Main Street USA, and went directly to Fantasy Land for photo session (LOL).

The fantasy Land brought up Bavarian Architecture and with its medieval setting it felt like its really inside a fairy tale. In fantasy land we rode It’s a Small World (so classical), and Peter Pan’s Flight. There were many small parks ideal for photoshooting as a Princess as well as every Princess grotto where we can do meet and greet with other Princess (LOL), unfortunately due to the limited time we could not make it. If I could visit this park once again I would really want to spend whole day inside Fantasy Land 😀

In Liberty Square we rode the Haunted Mansion (believe me it was not scary, at all, even for me) and we did study a little bit of American Presidency History in The Hall of Presidents. Of course my Dad was truly happy, he’s so into American Presidency.

In Adventure Land we rode Pirates of the Carribean and The jungle Cruise. This section of the park is designed to resembles jungle and island condition in Africa and Southern America.

We managed to get so many attractions in only half a day, thanks to our resort-complimentary fastpass. The fastpass allows us to book 3 pass for 3 ride at once and set the entrance time respectively. Once our fastpass has ran out we can book another 3 pass for another 3 ride online with Disney World mobile application or in a counter.

We planned to have our lunch at Be My Guest Restaurant (the newest restaurant with Beast’s Castle setting) but it was too crowded. We also planned to ride the The Seven Dwarves roller coaster, unfortunately it was still under trial period.

Disney’s Hollywood Studio

The second park that we visited was Disney’s Hollywood Studio, this park was built more to commemorate Hollywood work heyday of 1930s. This park was known all over the world for its signature giant mickey’s sorcerer hat.

In this park we did not visit much but we had a lot of fun. First we visited The Great Movie Ride in Hollywood Boulevard, a journey about Hollywood movie development.

We proceed to Echo Lagoons area and watched the great Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular which was really spectacular! It really gave me illustration about how movie stunt was performed.  In addition to that, we also rode Star Tours-The Adventures Continue, although it was a usual 3D simulator but it was really fun! My brother bought a customized light saber and we did a little duelling outside the attractions 😀

We were also having fun at The Streets of America, recreating photograph that we took 20 years ago and had a peek also at Honey I Shrunk the Kids : Movie Set Adventure.

So that was my story in Walt Disney World. What can I tell? I really adore Walt Disney for his ability to create such a magical theme park! I believe that everyone will feel the magical atmosphere in Disneyworld, everyone, no matter how old they are 😀

So I really wish I could go there again someday 🙂

Loads of magic and love

The Magical Walt Disney World (1)

Hello all~ I hope that the fasting month is going well for all of you 🙂

Again, a very late post (this has been a habit for me, posting a really late post) 😀 So in this post i want to tell you about Walt Disney World!! 😀 I went there on May when i visited USA and it was such an experience that no one could ever forget! So magical and joyful~

So, Walt Disney World is not only a ‘Disneyland Park’, it’s much more than that. Despite of having only one disney-themed park like Disneyland, Disney World is like an integrated site of theme parks, resort and other entertainment scheme owned by Disney Production. They have numerous hotels and resorts, 4 theme parks, waterparks, shopping center, golf course, and almost every recreation facilities. You name it, they have it.

It is located at Orlando, Florida (if you want to get there, just book a flight to Orlando International Airport). During my stay there, I stayed at Walt Disney World Swan Resort and we visited Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studio, Downtown Disney, and Disney Boardwalk. So i will tell you about some of the sites that i have visited!

Walt Disney World Swan

Swan? Did you just imagine about a fairy-tale-themed hotel? Unfortunately you were not that right. The only swan related or fairy tale related thing was the outer interior of the hotel and giant swan statue on top of the hotel. But still, i think the hotel was quite magical~

20140505_182259

welcome!

20140505_142640

Swan Statue

The hotel is co-owned with Sheraton Hotels and Resort so Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) member you are welcomed to redeem your point for your stay! The hotel itself was a bit old (especially the lift and room doors that were wearing off) but still well-maintained.

What’s the benefit of staying in this hotel? First, it made you eligible for Park ticket purchase in the hotel with fast-pass service (a part of Walt Disney World privileges). Second you got free access to every parks by bus and ferries (from and to Disney Hollywood Studio and Epcot Park). Third, because my dad was a Platinum-life member of SPG they put a special surprise in our room. A bowl full of snickers, mars, time-out and every other American chocolate for me and my sister’s graduation! Fun!

Congratulations MFA!

Congratulations B.Sc.!

The dining was quite good, for breakfast we could go for a buffet in . Where they claimed guest can have breakfast with Disney character if booked, my family had one, though, although we did not book it, LOL.

Breakfast with a Disney Character!

However, I specially recommend the Japanese restaurant and also the room service, it was really good! The view from the hotel at night was also incredible, you could see the fireworks from Magic Kingdom’s parade and you also had an astonishing view of the bridge connecting this hotel to its sister’s hotel, Walt Disney World Dolphin.

Downtown Disney

Downtown Disney is a small downtown for the whole resort where they have shops, restaurants, cafes, and even cinema. For sweet lovers, i recommended you to go to Goofy’s Candy Co, you can have every disney-themed treats here. From cupcake, cookies, candies, chocolate, and everything sugary!

If you want to taste America’s most famous chocolate you can also go to Ghirardelli Chocolate shop, which was truly delicious. You could have shakes, ice cream or just a simple signature ice-chocolate.

If you’re fond of shopping especially for Disney’s goods, going to World of Disney is really recommended. It is such a huge disney-themed shop where you can get everything. From usual souvenirs like t-shirt, pen, magnets, mugs, and key chain until suitcases, jewelry, make-ups cooking utensils and everything! You will definitely love it here! And if you have little children, they also sell princess costume and makeover here, at Bibbidi Bobbidi’s Boutiques.

In some day, they also have food trucks parked outside the Disney Downtown, so American, isn’t it?

Disney’s Boardwalk

This boardwalk is close from my hotel, it only took 5 minutes walking from my hotel, located near the ‘sea’ it imitates the real American boardwalk. Unfortunately I did not have any picture describing about this site. However this boardwalk consists of cafe, restaurant, food stalls, and game center, just like common American boardwalk. We can also see some street performances along the boardwalk from magic performance until music performance.

I think this boardwalk is especially recommended for a night dating with your boyfriend/husband 😀 You can have a nice dinner in one of the restaurant, your boy can win a doll for you in the game center, and you could also see the spectacular fireworks from the parade!

So this is my first review about The Magical Walt Disney World, i will write about the park in the following post!

See you soon~

With loads of love,

Minneapolis!

Hello all! How are you? お元気ですか。

I’ve been long promised to write all of my experiences in America, so I will start with this post, describing about my elder sister’s city, Minneapolis. Anyway, right now i’m already on my way to another trip to Sydney, Australia. So i’d better finish posts about America sooner 😀

So, Minneapolis, where my sister live, is a city located in Minnesota (and it’s also claimed to be the largest). With population of 400.000 this city seems so far away from a busy and bustling city life. This city is incredibly peaceful and quiet, not so many people are wandering around the street nor cars. And also incredibly cold, in winter they sometimes get a deep-freeze and the temperature can reach -40 degree celcius (could you imagine that?!) Also the snow might be piling up until one meters. Frozen~

So let me tell you about some places that i’ve visited in this city :

Minneapolis College of Art and Design

MCAD!

MCAD!

This is the college where my sister took her master degree. It is a quite posh art college (thanks to Fulbright) and it was really nice. The main building is located adjacent to dormitories and also art museum, Minneapolis Institute of Art (so you practically live inside the campus!) But, for students finishing their thesis, they have a studio off-campus.

the whole family in front of MCAD!

It has a huge lawn and i suppose they use it for picnic in a warm summer day. However, in the (quite) chilly weather of May the Minnesotan already walk around the lawn with only shorts and tank tops (look how they’ve adapted with chilly weather). On the graduation day, everyone take photos on the huge lawn.

everyone taking happy photos on the lawn :D

Around the campus there is street fully packed with nice restaurant and bars. I really love the Vietnamese restaurant! ❤

This is the museum located next to the campus, it has a huge collections from modern visual arts to world ancient art. From textile, paintings, sculpture, they have it all! It’s free of charge except for special exhibition held occasionally. It’s also adjacent to the Children’s theater. Take a look of some of its dazzling collections!

The Westin Minneapolis

We stayed at The Westin Minneapolis, located in the downtown Minneapolis. The hotel has been awarded Four Diamond Award from 2009 to 2014. The building is unique because it used to be a farmer and mechanic saving banks, they still have the safe (now it’s used as a wine lounge, super cool).

Minneapolis Downtown & Nicollet Mall

It only took about 5-10 minutes walking from our hotel to Minneapolis Downtown and its famous shopping street, Nicollet Mall. This mall is actually a street portion of Nicollet Avenue containing shopping centers and packed with many notable stores (Target headquarters is also located in this street) and public facilities such as orchestra hall.

One of the distinctive features of this street is their skyway, interconnecting buildings (because in winter it will be too cold to walk outside) and sometimes in winter they have parade in this street.

However, we went there in the evening (around 7 PM) and the stores were closed at 7 PM (it was funny, there was still daylight but all of the stores were closing and it was so quiet). But we had managed to take some pictures, thou.

Not far from the Nicollet Mall there are several incredible places to eat! Hell’s Kitchen and also Angel Food Bakery, it is located at the same building, both at 80 South 9th Street.

So hell’s kitchen concept is to bring breakfast menu to every meal time of the day! So they served so many breakfast menu inside their menu and even they sell their legendary peanut butter. Their decoration is a bit hellish, red and black paints, a loads of scary paintings related to demons and evils, however the atmosphere is just like, Hard Rock Cafe i think 😀

My commentary about the food? Just like it’s slogan, it is really a damn good food! We ordered Pecan Caramel Rolls, Steak and Egg, Hell’s Kitchen Juicy Lucifer (my favorite), and Lemon Ricotta Hotcake for our dinner 😀 you can see my review here :

The restaurant open from 6.30 AM and closed at 11 PM. If you’re coming in breakfast or dinner time, you have to watch out for the long queue. Many people really want to eat breakfast here! Please refer here for more information.

Located just upstairs is Angel Food Bakery. The Angel food bakery is really really cute, all the decorations are just like what i want when i have a cupcake store later on. The pastry was good but not the cupcake (still i think it’s too greasy, the icing is too artificial, blah blah~) Please take a look here for their website.

Foshay Tower & Minneapolis Sculpture Garden

I did not visit those two places but my auntie did with her college friend. Foshay tower used to be a legendary skyscraper in Minneapolis as one of the first building to surpass the height of Minneapolis City Hall. Now this building is a luxury collection hotel, W Minneapolis, when they also have the famous and posh steak house, Manny’s Steak House. You can visit the museum and go to the observation deck to watch beautiful scenery of Minneapolis.

Mall of America

I save the last thing for this huge shopping mall, gigantically huge and famous shopping mall, Mall of America. This mall is located near the airport so we can take light rail (blue line) from the city center.

Inside the mall there is huge selections of branded store ( i got crazy because of the gigantic F21 store, as always) and even Nickelodeon Land! I recommend to eat in Ruby Tuesday if you visit Mall of America.

So, pardon me for this extra long pages! I spent almost 2 hours to finish this post inside Starbucks while waiting for my flight to Sydney!

See you soon for other American-related post or even winter in Sydney!

Tons of love

Review : All Nippon Airways <3

Hello all, long time no see! ❤

So, earlier this month, i have just had a trip to America. Mainly, to attend my sister’s graduation and also we’re having family holiday. So in this post and the following posts, I will talk about my trip to USA. First post will be… my review about the airline!

So we went to America by All Nippon Airways (ANA), a member of Star Alliance.

All-Nippon-Airways-logo

Not only we were aiming for the points but also the price was really reasonable. To get to Minneapolis we took route from Jakarta-Narita-Chicago Ohare. From Ohare we continued with United Airlines to Minneapolis Saint Paul Airport.

Way back home was much longer. From Orlando we went to Washington Dulles then Narita then Jakarta. It felt tremendously long probably because we were exhausted.

So what’s my commentary for this airlines?

15

1. Excellent Cabin Crew

The cabin crew? They were really excellent. First they were really politeof course, they’re Japanese. Second they dressed up appropriately. The stewardess are beautiful for sure but It’s a different kind of beauty from Singapore Airlines or Garuda Indonesia stewardess. They are dressed beautifully and elegantly with simplicity that really suits their main duty, serving passenger. For example they wear knee length skirt instead of long tight sarong or long tight skirt like Garuda or SQ’s uniform. They also wore low-heeled shoes instead of high heels. Their make-up is natural and they even wear apron when serving meals. The combinations are just so appropriate.

their elegant uniform :)

Third, did i mention that all the cabin crews (except the pilot and first officer) are woman? It is so cool! Fourth, they were meticulous! That was my first time to see a stewardess taking such a careful notice of every detail. They even wrote down your smallest order in a pocket book and carefully examine the pocket book when they sit down on their jump seat. Fifth, their English were fine (even though they talked with Japanese to me -_-).

For overall i think i should give two thumbs up for the cabin crew!

2. Decent Airfleets with Well-maintained Cabin Condition

The airfleets used were quite decent. From Jakarta to Tokyo they used Boeing 767-300 ER and for longer haul from Tokyo to Chicago they used Boeing 777-300 ER. These two planes were relatively new. The cabin condition was well-maintained and almost spotlessly clean. The economy class seat was spacious for 145 cm-me 😀 The seats are comfortable, cushions were soft, they have enough leg room, good foot rest, and quite wide aisle.

24

spacious cabin, me, and snacks from Narita 😀

However, the plane that we used from Washington Dulles to Tokyo was quite old, it was Boeing 747-400. I predicted that this plane was more than 20 years old but it was still very well-maintained, clean and no faulty could be find inside the planes. Even the lavatory was cleaner than Singapore Airlines brand-new A380 that i recently rode from Tokyo to Singapore.

3. Decent In-flight Entertainment

In flight entertainment was decent and I really like it. It’s available in Japanese, English, Francais, Korean, and Chinese.

in-flight entertainment

Music selections varied from Pop, Jazz, Classical until traditional Japanese music and Relaxing Orgel. I found a very good japanese jazz singer named Hiroko Williams 🙂

Hiroko Williams, you should check her out, guys!

Hiroko Williams, you should check her out, guys!

They also had good selection of movies (I watched Frozen (two times), Lego Movies and a good Japanese movie named Calmi Cuori Appassionati, a Japanese movie with Tokyo-Firenze settings.

Beside that, they also have a speed learning language program for Japanese and Chinese, but i think it is a bit too fast. They have a bird-eye view camera that enables you to see everything below the plane (like Emirates Airlines), this also includes the take off and landing procedure, which is a total coolness for an aviation geek like me.

I was really excited to find a USB plug, in which you can connect and play everything inside your gadget’s media player to in-flight entertainment system.

In-flight entertainment Unit

In-flight entertainment Unit, with USB plug, unfortunately not working -__-

However, i could not connect my media player (even though my phone is NTT Docomo, a Japanese made phone). But the plug was still usable for charging, thou.

4. Mouth-watering In-flight Cuisine

ANA in-flight cuisine, The Connosieur was an exciting palate of food brought to 30.000 feet in the sky! In economy class, we had two selections of menu Japanese and Western. The Japanese menu was much fresher than the Western Menu, but I think the Western menu was also decent.

The Japanese menu mainly consist of rice and steamed seafood, cold soba with sauce, tofu, umeboshi, sliced of fresh fruit, and hot miso shiru. It was like simple japanese home-cooking. The food ingredients was fresh and it tasted really good 🙂

for the drinks they have standard selection (from selection of tea, coffee, juice, but you should try their Kabosu, their citrus juice from Oita Prefecture). If we’re talking about the frequency of meal service, i think that it’s just adequate. In a long haul flight you will get snack upon take off (mainly assorted rice crackers, yum), 2 main course (breakfast and lunch OR dinner and breakfast), dessert, sandwich and other snacks available on the galley 😀

The only drawbacks that we had experienced was the connections. The connection in Washington Dulles was a bit too tight. Ok, Washington Dulles airport was huge, really huge. From our disembarkation gate at D terminal we had to run all the way to the end of terminal C to take the bus. After that we arrived at terminal A and had to walk all the way to our gate in terminal B. it was pretty far and such a close call with only 1 hour to spare. I think that’s the only thing that they should improve, anyway 😀

So, i really recommend you guys to ride All Nippon Airways when you want to go somewhere. You can indulge with an excellent in-flight service with such a reasonable price 😀
